COMPOSITES IN THE SKY

On August 23, 2009 the IX International Air-Space Salon “MAKS-2009” in Zhukovski (Moscow region, Russia) was closed. By estimate of experts and spectators it became a very rememberable Salon as on sum of signed contracts, weather and as on business-program. One of the interesting events of the Salon was the workshop conference “Application of composite materials in civil and military aircraft industry” organized by Union of Composite Manufactures and exhibition company “Mir-Expo”.

The main task of this conference was to show that in Russia there were company, enterprises and Institutes that actively and successfully had been working in the field of producing of composite materials for aviation needs, researches and innovations.

More than 200 experts of companies engaged in producing of aviation equipment, materials, devices, prepregs, resins, software programs, and experts of research Institutes and centers, journalists attended the conference.

The following innovations were presented:

-   sandwich-composites on the base of hollow microspheres with high specific stress-strain properties; 

-   composites of radio-technical functionality for cowlings and covers;

-   ultralight nanostructured constructional material on the base of fibers of high molecular polyethylene;

-   new epoxy matrixes for aviation composites;

-   automatic stands for fatigue testing of polymeric composite materials;

-   prepregs based on nanomodified carbon and mineral fibers with nanoparticles resins;

-   construction compositions obtained by radiation technology and etc.

The company Airtech jointly with All-Russian Aviation Institute (VIAM) showed producing of sample-demonstrator of a panel with integrated primary structure on the technology RFI,  that excited big interest of the conference’s participants.

We hope that holding such conference on the next Salon in 2011 will become a successful tradition.
